Lissa Ayer is Melissa Ayer (pronounced “Air”) in real life, a Filipino-American based in Los Angeles, the home to celebrities and trendy fashion. Born to be in the Fashion world, Melissa’s penchant for fashion was nurtured at a very early age by spending countless weekends scouring malls and boutiques with her shopping buddy, her mother, and playing dress ups with her mom’s designer clothes, four-inch heels and fancy jewels and staging fashion shows in her own bedroom. Her dad was an RTW ready-to-wear clothing manufacturer and being the only daughter, she was exposed to wearing matching custom couturier made clothes with her mom. Melissa was very influenced by her mother’s glamorous and sophisticated sense of style. Her love for fashion blossomed through her teens and to be different from everyone else, she would always have something custom made for her, whenever she partied with friends.

She started modeling in her early teens & has been exposed to the Fashion World her whole life. She attended an all-girls private school and excelled scholastically. At a very young age, she dreamed of owning her own boutique & designing her own line and spent her time watching modeling videos, reading & tearing out pages from her fashion magazines and sketching.

In 1994, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing Management and soon after went to Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, California and got her degree in Fashion Design. She started working in the Fashion Industry taking different roles, from a designer’s assistant, sales executive, buyer/purchasing coordinator to merchandising and production managing. “My best experience in fashion was working for a firm that specialized in private label better dresses and separates that sold to big accounts like Bloomingdales and J. Jill. I was the owner’s assistant and learned every aspect of the business from designing, pattern making, grading, cutting, sample making, vendor relations, order processing, data entry, sales and marketing. It was the best education.”

Shortly after getting married to Matt, a commercial real estate broker in Los Angeles, she joined her husband in his business. In 2004, Melissa decided to take time off but soon later found herself craving to go back to the business world. Though she liked real estate, deep in her heart “fashion is her passion.” Inspired by her dream, the young and dynamic husband and wife team launched the online fashion boutique, Lissaayer.com. “She has always had a keen eye for fashion,” says Matt of Melissa. “People always stop her in public to complement her style. There was one instance when a lady wanted to buy her whole outfit right off her back!”

As the company grows, Lissaayer.com is adding more designers in their roster. Melissa has aspirations of designing her own line & will be launching it in the future.
